Yesterday I had Fabric Dying class with Takigaki Sensei. She was looking at my work and told me that I was very good. She told me that I was her favorite foreign exchange student and the best she had. She commented on me being a special student and then left the room.
I thought this was very flattering but also very awkward and didn't know what to do and was about to leave seeing as class was over. That's when she came back into the room with a small scarf. She handed it to me and said "present." It looked at it and saw that it was white with 2 interlocking printed patterns on it in red and blue. The design was beautiful and the printing was superb and I believe hand done. I thanked her and she told me it was her mother's who used to dance (she then mimed some hypnotic arm movements to demonstrate that the scarf was part of her performance). Completely taken aback by this and honored that I received such a great gift that once belonged to her (obviously dead) mother, i could do nothing but bow and repeat "arigato gozaimas" ove and over agian.
I LOVE TAKIGAKI SENSEI!!!!
