Oh DEER!

Yesterday, Sam, James, Evan, Babs, and I went to Nara to go see Todaiji Temple. The temple is gorgeous and is the home to one of the biggest and the first statue of Buddha in Japan! It was huge! It was utterly astounding to walk into the temple and immediately be confronted by such an astonishingly large enlightened figure. ha ha. But what really stole my heart wasn't the statue, it was the deer.

All outside of the temple and in the surrounding park area were deer. They were tan with white spots and had antlers that didn't come to a point but were rounded on the ends. The antlers were also slightly fuzzy. The best part was that they were so accustomed to people that they were actually friendly!!! That's right these deer didn't run away from you at all! They let you feed and pet them!!! it was AWESOME! I was geeking out! No where else in the world have I ever heard of friendly deer! I don't know if they were domesticated or if they aren't as naturally skittish as other species but I do know that it was incredible to actually touch one of my favorite animals in the entire world! Such an incredible experience!

Oh Japan, just when I think i've seen everything you whip out something even more amazing!
